I-86

In the fall of 2003, the section of the Southern Tier Expressway, (NYS Route 17) which runs through Elmira, between Erie, Pennsylvania to New York City will be transformed into Interstate 86.

The connection of Elmira via I-86 to I-81 running from Ontario, Canada, through Syracuse, Scranton and all points south east, and eventually to I-99, (Route 15), 10 miles west will provide the crossroads interstate connection that Elmira has longed for, for several decades.

This important project committed to by Governor Pataki will put Elmira and the entire Southern Tier prominently on the map.
